Dying Moon

Kodiak watched from an overhang near the Sera Serenade pack den, looking over Yellowstone with a fixed and steady gaze. He felt captivated by the way the moon encapsulated the land in a possesive white light, creating places in the trees that not even shadows could reach, for the moon gaurded those spots with its pure white shine. A cool breeze swept through Kodiak's fur, weaving through his thick, dark brown fur. Unlike most, he enjoyed the cold, and prefered the cold over the heat. It was rare to see him shiver from the weather, partly because of his love for the cold and partly because his fur was so beautifully thick and sleek like a smooth reflection off the shallow waters of Slough Creek.

Kodiak barely noticed the moon begin to die in the sky and be replaced with a bloody colored sunrise. The clouds streaked through the heavens like a painting, colored in with different shades of purple and pink and orange. Kodiak glanced over at the sun that was just bringing forth the new day, and stood on his feet. With one final sigh, he turned around and padded back toward the pack sleeping place.

He saw the pack sprawled across the ground outside the den, sleeping silently. He grinned, then stood tall and proudly over them.
"Any of you awake? Because if you weren't before you are now." He barked, grinning at them in amusement.

Rune raised his head. He grined at Kodiak. "I was already awake" he answered as he stood up. He streched, then shook his brown/ whaite fur out. "Morning Kodiak." he said as he flicked his banner at the leader.

(Banner = Tail...... Should I just call it a tail?)

Rune flicked his ears to the movent of another pack mate. He turned, seeing it was Klutches. "Morning Klutches" Rune said to his pack mate, with a wide grin. He listened to what Klutches had asked. He waited for an answer.

Turns and smiles at Klutches, thanking him for his words. His tail thumps on the ground. He raises his muzzle to the sky and smells the world arounf him.Rune's ears perke as he hears the birds sing. He put his attention back on Kodiak, waiting for an answer.

Kodiak nodded at them and smiled. "Morning all, hope you slept well." Kodiak then sat down on the ground, his eyes scanning the rest of the pack to make sure they were waking up.

"For now I think it would be a good idea to catch some breakfast before all the bears and coyotes wake up and start botheriing us. I dont exactly feel like picking bear fur out of my teeth." He said, joking around a little at the end. With a quick yawn, he stood up again and started weaving through the sleeping wolves that were still sprawled across the ground. He looked each of them over quickly, checking to make sure nothing seemed wrong with any of them. He always checked the pack over at the start of each day, that way he knew if one of them was too sick to participate in the daily activities and if they had to be kept in the den for a while so that the sickness wouldn't spread.

Rune let out a yawn, hearing Kodiaks yawn. "I agree, the pack needs ther daily energy". He said as he raised his leg and scratch behing his ear wit his paw. " Do you have a idea of where and what we will be hunting?" He asked Kodiak as the leader checked over the rest of the pack mates.

Kodiak replied to Rune, not looking at him though since he was still checking over the pack. "I think we'll head over to Old Oxbow. The elk need to drink, and Oxbow has water. Plus, since Oxbow is in a field, it will be easier to keep track of where the elk are running since they aren't hiding in the trees and such. As long as we keep our bodies down low to the tall grass we should be able to approach the herds drinking and grazing there without much difficulty."

Kodiak finally finished checking over, then smiled a little at the wolves who still lied on the ground in a deep slumber. "Well, I suppose I will, since everyone else has decided to sleep in." He chuckled, turning away from the pack and walking over to Rune and Klutches.
"You ready to go?" He asked them, tilting his head to the side slightly.

Rune nodded, grinning, as he was ready to hunt. He stood up and shook his fur. Rune took a few steps and stood behind Kodiak. He looked into the direction of Old Oxbow, showing he was ready when ever Klutches and Kodiak were.

Kodiak nodded at Ashen and flashed him a smile. He scanned over Ashen quickly, noticing that he seemed overly tired. Kodiak laughed in his mind. He found it amusing how this Hand seemed to always find things to amuse himself with.
"You look tired Ashen, do you want to come with us to hunt at Old Oxbow or do you wish to sleep in like the others?" Kodiak asked, making eye contact with Ashen as he spoke to him.

Rune looked at his pack mate, seeing how exsausted he was. "You should rest Ashen" he said looking at his pack mate. "Build up your energy for the next hunt" he quickly added. Rune watch Ashen, awaiting his answer.

Kane woke up hearing them walking away. He Quickly followed, and yipped to the Kodiak,"Good Morning, I apologize for sleeping late." He sniffed the air, scenting a hare in a bush, He looked at the leader as if saying,"May I?"

Kodiak nodded at Kane, smiling slightly at him to let him know that he could go after the hare. He then turned his head back to the weary Ashen. He awaited a response from him. His eyes were calm and and his body was totally relaxed.

Chases after the hare, pounces on it and eats it for a small breakfeast.

Follows Them again.

"So were hunting Elk?"
